Intramuscular (IM) B12 Shot
Vitamin B12 is a vitamin found naturally in our foods. It is important in so many biochemical reactions in the human body that a deficiency of Vitamin B12 can lead to a whole host of adverse reactions and illness. Intramuscular (IM) injection of Vitamin B12 is a way to deliver this powerful vitamin directly into the blood system and cells while bypassing the gastrointestinal tract.
This method of delivery ensures the most amount of absorption and is fairly safe. The shot is usually given on the arm, buttock, or thigh. There may be some stinging and soreness at the site of injection.
Indications for IM B12:
- Pernicious Anemia
- B12 Deficiency Anemia
- Long-term vegetarians/vegans who have developed Vitamin B12 deficiency
Some conditions known to be clinically improved with IM B12:
- Low energy level
- Low mood, depression
- Poor concentration and focus

The Myers Cocktail was pioneered by Dr. John Myers of Baltimore, Maryland in the 1970s. The Myers is an intravenous injection of vitamins and minerals that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of many conditions.
Some of these conditions include:
- Athletic performance
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Menstrual pain
- Muscle Cramping (including acutely)
- Narcotic withdrawal
- Seasonal allergies
- Tension headaches
- Urticaria, chronic (skin itching)
- Upper respiratory tract infection
Throughout its history, the Myers Cocktail has been a safe and effective treatment with very little adverse reactions. However, caution should be used in people with renal impairment. Patients may feel a sensation of warmth during the injection. To prevent light-headedness, the Myers is administered slowly and takes approximately 5-20 minutes.
Specifically, the contents of the Myers Cocktail include Magnesium chloride, Calcium gluconate, Vitamin C, Vitamins B5, B6, B12, and B-complex. If you are allergic or sensitive to any of these contents, the Myers Cocktail may not be suitable for you. If you are uncomfortable with receiving intravenous injection therapy, the Myers Cocktail may not be suitable for you.
